Christian Michael Adams was a Specialist in the United States Army, assigned to the Forward Support Company, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, based at Fort Hood, Texas. He was 26 years old and a native of Sierra Vista, Arizona.
According to the Department of Defense, Adams died on June 11, 2010, at Kandahar Airfield in southern Afghanistan. He was reportedly killed by enemy small arms fire while on a dismounted patrol outside the base perimeter.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The mission involved combat operations against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces.
The Army confirmed his death in a press release. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other service medals. His unit, the 20th Engineer Battalion, was responsible for route clearance and construction missions in Kandahar Province.
