Abdul Jay Book 1 Complete Hausa Novel English Translation

Alhaji widened his eyes in shock. What had happened was beyond anything he expected.

He looked at Hasinat and said, “Daughter, let us go.”

Mommy watched them until they left before turning to Hafsa, who was soaked with soup.

She said, “Be patient, Hafsa. Allah will reward you.”

Hafsa forced a smile and replied, “It is nothing. One day she will stop.”

After saying that, she continued cleaning herself and touching the painful spots on her body. Mommy then went into her room.

Hasinat Leaves Home

“Daddy, I am going out. I want to visit Walida’s house.”

He replied, “Okay. How much do you need?”

She said, “Daddy, about fifty thousand should be enough.”

He asked, “Will that not be too small for you?”

She replied, “It is enough, just for today.”

He smiled, picked up his phone, and transferred the money to her. She thanked him and went out to the car. She entered and drove off.

J Man Learns the Truth

J Man and his father returned home with heavy hearts. He took his father straight into the room where his mother was sitting close by, looking deeply worried.

His father held J Man’s hand and said, “Sit down here beside your mother. Let me tell you what happened.”

Then he began explaining.

“Some months ago, Abduljabar, during your final period at the university, the money that was needed was not given to me by just anyone. It was Alhaji Nabo who gave it to me.”

He continued, “The reason I refused to tell you that day was because I did not know what lie to tell you. When I first went out, I met him, and when he saw that I was worried, he asked me what was wrong. I told him what I needed.”

“He said he would give me the money, but on one condition. I thought his condition would be that I should not delay paying him back. But that was not what he meant.”

His voice weakened.

“He told me he wanted me to agree to something shameful. At first, I did not understand what he meant until he explained it clearly. My heart became troubled because I never imagined that Alhaji could be involved in such a thing.”

“I rejected what he said and advised him, but he did not accept my advice. In the end, he told me to go and think about it.”

He added, “I searched everywhere for money but could not find any. Abdul, you too were working at the garage, but it was almost as if you were not working at all because the money was never enough. I did not know what to do, and time was running out.”

“So I made the terrible decision to accept his condition.”

J Man quickly covered his father’s mouth.

“Enough! So you accepted because of useless money? You accepted because of my education? And now I have graduated with no job, only to end up in the same garage? Why, Baba? Why did you do this?”

His father was crying too.

“Abdul, I did not know sickness could come through that path. Allah showed me a sign. Abdul, the money I received from Alhaji had no blessing. Look at me now. I gained nothing from it.”

J Man cried bitterly.

He said, “Baba, do you know what Allah says about this kind of act? Why did you forget? Why?”

Then he asked, “Baba, did you tell Alhaji about the sickness?”

His father explained what happened between them.

J Man became very angry.

“I will take him to court.”

His father quickly said, “No, Abdul. Leave it. Even if you go to court, you may not win. I brought this upon myself.”

J Man shook his head.

“If the court will not take action, then I will take action myself. The money that pushed you into this destruction will not go for nothing.”

His father held his hand and said, “I said leave it, Abdul. Why do you not listen?”

A Sudden Death

J Man looked toward where his mother was sitting. She was completely still.

He moved closer and touched her. Suddenly, she slipped as if she was about to fall. He quickly caught her.

“She is not breathing,” he said.

The next words that escaped his mouth were, “Baba, Mama is dead.”

He began shaking her and calling, “Mama! Mama!”

But she did not move.

His father stood with difficulty, even though his own body was weak, and moved toward her.

“Halima,” he kept calling her name, but there was no answer.

He broke down crying, and the crying triggered a severe cough. Blood began coming out as he coughed.

J Man laid his mother down and held his father.

“Enough, Baba. Stop crying.”

But when the bleeding did not stop, he stood and said, “Let me go and buy your medicine. Before then, I will send people to come and carry Mama.”

He rushed out and went to inform their neighbors. Then he decided to go to his father’s elder brother’s house, even though he did not believe he would get the help he needed.

At His Uncle’s House

He gently pushed open the gate and greeted.

The gatekeeper, who was sitting nearby, answered with a smile. But when he saw the way J Man entered, he immediately understood that something was wrong.

J Man greeted him and went inside.

Saudat was standing near her boyfriend’s car, chatting with him. When she saw J Man, she frowned.

She said to the young man, “This beggar has come again. He has a problem. Imagine a young man like him allowing his heart to die this much. All he knows is begging. And yet he says he loves me? As for me, he is finished.”

J Man looked at her, but he was not in the mood to respond.

He entered the parlor with greetings. The woman sitting there answered, but when she saw that it was him, she frowned and left.

A young boy at the dining table looked at him and said, “Yaya Abdul, welcome.”

“Thank you, Sameer,” he replied, then greeted the woman properly, but she only answered coldly and left.

Sameer brought him water from the fridge.

J Man held his hand and said, “Sameer, go and tell Daddy that I am here.”

The boy went upstairs. After a while, he came down with his father.

J Man sat on the floor and greeted him.

His uncle answered casually and asked, “What happened, Abdul? Why did I see you like this today?”

J Man explained everything that had brought him there.

His uncle shook his head and said, “So your father has been sick, but he did not tell me earlier to look for money until now? Honestly, Abdul, I do not have money right now. But let me give you advice. Why do you not go into the bush and pluck some leaves for him? Those too can work as medicine.”

J Man became deeply hurt. He knew his uncle had money; he simply did not want to help.

He stood without saying anything and started leaving.

His uncle called after him, “What is this, Abdul? I am talking to you and you are walking away?”

J Man turned and said, “I do not need your advice, Uncle. Keep what belongs to you. You should have simply come out and told me you would not give me money.”

His uncle shouted angrily as J Man left, accusing him of disrespect.

J Man Meets Hasinat Again

As he walked out, he met Raudat, who quickly moved aside because she knew he was not someone to play with when angry.

J Man left the house with no solution. He kept wondering where he would go and what he would do. He became so lost in thought that he did not realize he had reached the main road.

Suddenly, he heard the loud screech of brakes.

Hasinat came out of her car in anger. She was so furious that she slapped him.

The slap brought him back from his thoughts.

He looked at her, his heart boiling. Was this girl the one who had slapped him?

He raised his hand to slap her back, but someone held his hand.

The man holding him said, “It is not right, servant of Allah. Leave her. No matter what, she is a woman. Besides, you stepped in front of her car, even though she too should not have slapped you.”

J Man looked at the man, then remembered the condition in which he had left his parents. He did not argue. He simply walked away.

Hasinat continued shouting insults behind him before entering her car again.

At Alhaji Mai Bado’s House

As he walked, J Man decided to go to the house of his father’s former boss, Alhaji Mai Bado. Even though the man had treated him rudely before, he wanted to try again.

He took a taxi and went to Alhaji Mai Bado’s house.

At the gate, he informed the security guard that he wanted to see the owner of the house. The guard went in and later returned to say he should enter.

J Man entered the parlor weakly and greeted.

When Alhaji saw him, he dropped the newspaper in his hand and looked at him.

“Young man, what is it?”

J Man forced a smile, sat down, greeted him, and explained who he was.

As soon as Alhaji understood where the matter was heading, his face changed.

After J Man finished explaining, Alhaji asked, “So your father did not tell you the agreement between us?”

J Man replied, “He told me. But I came to see whether you would help before another time.”

Alhaji quickly raised his hand to stop him.

“Do not bring Allah into this. You came here to disturb me. Your father accepted because he wanted money. Now that everything has gone bad, you have come to bother me. If you say one more word, Allah will judge between us. I have not forgiven you.”

J Man looked at him in shock, but he controlled himself because a person in need does not have the luxury of anger.

When Alhaji saw that he refused to leave, he stood and said, “Let me give you space to leave. Make sure you are out of my house before I order them to throw you out.”

Then he left.

Hasinat Helps Him

J Man stood to leave when he heard Hasinat call him.

“Servant of Allah.”

He turned and looked at her before looking away.

She moved closer and said, “I do not know what happened between you and Alhaji, but take this and use it. It is fifty thousand.”

He collected it, wiped his tears, and said, “Thank you.”

As he turned to leave, she called him again.

“Can you tell me what brought you to Alhaji?”

Even though he was in a hurry, he decided to tell her because it was clear she did not know what had happened. He sat down and narrated the story of what his father had told him. After that, he said goodbye and left because he still wanted to go to the garage to complete the money.

Mommy Discovers the Truth

After J Man left, Mommy’s chest began burning.

So it was Alhaji who had infected her with HIV. That was why when she told him she had it and did not know where it came from, he acted as if it was nothing and said he could still stay with her.

She had never known that this was the kind of life Alhaji was living.

Suddenly, she broke down crying.

At that moment, Alhaji came out. Seeing her crying, he sat beside her.

“What is wrong, queen of our house?”

She quickly raised her hand.

“I do not want to hear anything. So you are the one who destroyed us. Is this the kind of thing you have been doing? You are the one who infected us with HIV?”

She looked at him painfully.

“Why did you not tell me? Why?”

He remained silent for a moment, then stood.

“So he came and told you? Yes, it is true. If you can stay with me, stay. If you cannot, there is the way out.”

He walked away.

Mommy watched him in shock. Was that all he could say?

Aisha, who was in the kitchen, heard her crying and came out.

“Mommy, what happened?”

Mommy quickly wiped her tears.

“Nothing. Aisha, go and continue your work.”

Aisha nodded and said, “Alright, Mommy. I have never seen you cry before. I will not pressure you, but whatever it is, keep repeating the names of Allah in your heart. You will feel relief.”

After saying that, she left, while Mommy watched her and wished Aisha was truly her daughter.

At the Garage

J Man walked without paying attention to where he placed his feet. Suddenly, someone held him back. Only then did he regain awareness and notice that he had almost fallen into a ditch.

He looked at the woman who saved him. She was elderly and beautiful, around his mother’s age.

She said, “Young man, you are walking while lost in thought. You could harm yourself.”

He nodded, and she released him before entering her house.

J Man continued toward the garage.

Meanwhile, Hasinat’s car suddenly stopped while she was driving. She tried and tried, but it refused to start.

“Oh God,” she said.

She looked around and saw a garage nearby. She thanked Allah, came out, and went to the garage.

She greeted them, and they answered happily before she explained the problem. The mechanics brought the car in and began working on it, but it refused to respond.

One of the workers came out and said, “Madam, the car has refused to start. Honestly, I do not know what to do. If J Man were here, he would have known what to do.”

Hasinat hissed.

“Then call this J Man. What is his use?”

The man was about to reply when he saw J Man coming.

“There he is.”

Hasinat and Abdul Jay

Hasinat turned to see who he was. She looked at him closely. She recognized him, even though his dressing was different. She looked away.

“A man is still a man. His only problem is that he is poor,” she said to herself.

Then she turned again to look at him.

The garage owner moved close to J Man. Seeing his condition, he asked, “J Man, what happened? Are you sick?”

Tears began falling from J Man’s eyes.

“Oga, my mother died today. I did not even stay beside her. I came out to look for money for my father’s medicine because her death worsened his sickness. I have searched everywhere and do not know what to do. A kind woman gave me fifty thousand, but I still need twenty thousand.”

He ended his words crying.

The garage owner became deeply worried. They had not made much money that day, so he did not know how much he could help with.

Hasinat, standing by the side, saw a grown man crying and found it funny. She laughed.

Hearing her laughter, J Man turned and looked at her.

She laughed until she was satisfied, then stopped. But when she looked at him properly, something moved in her heart. Quickly, she looked away.

She wondered what was happening to her. How could she look at a man and feel her heart shake?

J Man looked at his boss and asked, “Who is that?”

The boss explained that she came because her car had a fault.

Then the boss advised him, “J Man, why do you not repair her car? After that, we can charge her and you may get the money you need.”

J Man shook his head.

“No. I will ask whether she can lend me the money.”

The boss looked at him carefully because he knew J Man did not like humiliation. From the look of the girl, she might insult him, but there was nothing he could do.

J Man moved toward her and looked at her from head to toe. Then he recognized her as the same girl from earlier. He hissed and decided he could not ask her for anything.

He went to wear his garage clothes, came back, and went under the car. He did not stay long before coming out and entering the car. When he started it, the car came alive.

The workers began praising him.

“J Man of cars! Abduljabar!”

Hasinat repeated the name quietly, “Abduljabar.”

Then she smiled and said, “Abdul Jay sounds better.”

J Man brought her out of her thoughts.

“Your repair money, madam.”

She looked at him, entered the car, and brought out money without even checking the amount. She gave it to him.

He looked at the money and said, “Your money is more than the repair cost.”

She shrugged and said, “What do you mean? Are you saying I cannot give this? I just saw you crying and looking for help. Now that I decided to help you, you are forming pride?”

He smiled bitterly.

“I do not need that kind of help.”

Hasinat became angry. She had never tried helping anyone only to be rejected.

She hissed, threw the money at him, entered her car, and drove off, covering him with dust.

He watched her leave.

The garage owner held his shoulder and said, “Leave her. A person in need does not get angry. Take it and go. You can repay her later.”

When J Man refused to pick the money, his boss picked it up himself. It was thirty thousand. He added it to the money and placed it in J Man’s hand.

Remembering the condition in which he had left his parents, J Man accepted it, stopped a motorcycle, bought the medicine, and went home.

Another Tragedy

From the moment he reached their street, his heart kept beating fast. But he forced himself until he reached the house.

His eyes fell on two bodies already prepared for burial.

He came down, and one of the neighbors told him that not long after he left, his father also followed his wife in death.

J Man trembled deeply. The medicines fell from his hand. Some broke, and some scattered on the ground.

He widened his eyes and held the neighbor’s hand.

“No, Baba. Do not tell me they are both dead. If they are dead, I have no one. What will I do? Baba cannot die. I want him to live and see how I will fight for revenge.”

The neighbor shook his head sadly. Everyone knew J Man was strong and patient, so seeing him cry meant the pain was not small.

When the neighbor said nothing, J Man moved close to the bodies and uncovered his father’s face. He shook him, begging him to wake up. Then he went to his mother and begged her too not to leave him.

When they saw that he was almost losing control, they pulled him away. The funeral prayer was performed, and his parents were taken to their final resting place, the place every soul must one day go.

J Man cried like a small child.

His uncle, his father’s elder brother, was elsewhere and did not even know what had happened.

Aisha and Hasinat

Hasinat drove to her friend’s house. After spending time there, she returned home.

Her return coincided with Aisha coming out to go home because Maghrib was close.

When Hasinat saw her, she hissed.

She thought, “You will not leave now. I will waste your time until it becomes late.”

Aisha stopped and greeted her, but Hasinat did not answer.

She asked, “Who dismissed you when we had not returned?”

Aisha replied, “Aunty, I finished my work. But if there is something else you want me to do, I can stay.”

Hasinat said, “You already know that since I have not dismissed you, you must stay.”

Aisha’s voice weakened.

“Aunty, if it is work that will take long, please let me do it tomorrow.”

Hasinat widened her eyes.

“So you said you will not do it? You have no intention of doing it?”

Aisha quickly shook her head because she knew Hasinat’s habit of twisting words.

“No, by Allah, that is not what I said. Please forgive me.”

Hasinat slapped her.

“So you are saying I lied?”

Aisha became silent because she knew if she spoke again, she would invite another problem.

Hasinat moved ahead, and Aisha followed her into the room.

After Hasinat finished relaxing, she looked at Aisha and said, “Go and wash my clothes. Then take this money and buy shampoo for me. Only after that can you leave.”

Aisha collected the money and gathered the clothes.

She stood behind the door, wondering what to do. Hasinat had forbidden her from using the washing machine, and Maghrib was near. She knew her mother would be waiting anxiously for her.

Tears came without warning.

She went out and washed the clothes by hand until the call for Maghrib prayer was made. After finishing, she spread them and prayed.

Seeing that night had almost arrived, she decided to leave. Tomorrow, if Hasinat wanted to kill her for leaving, so be it.

She walked home, silently condemning Hasinat’s character. Her mother had likely spent the whole day in worry, and she had not even gone to check on her.

As Aisha walked, the breeze blew gently.

She smiled and thought, “This is the kind of time lovers go out to enjoy themselves.”

Then she laughed at herself.

“Aisha, you do not even have a boyfriend. How do you know that?”

She lightly hit her own head, laughing because she was talking alone like someone newly possessed.

Aisha Returns Home

She entered the house of the woman who had earlier saved J Man from falling into the ditch.

The woman, who had been moving back and forth in the compound, quickly held her daughter even before answering her greeting.

“Aishatu, what delayed you? Was it Hasinat again?”

Aisha laughed and said, “Inna, look at how worried you are. You know it can only be her. By Allah, even now I simply ran away.”

Inna hissed and said, “Honestly, you must stop going to that work. Haba.”

Aisha replied, “Be patient, my mother. Everything is only for a time. Whatever has a beginning also has an end.”

Inna said, “We shall see that end.”

Then she held her daughter’s hand, and they went inside.
