For her, as the sound of the recitation entered her ears with a strange calmness and coolness, his face kept returning to her mind.

His face kept passing before her, along with all his movements that showed his pride, dignity, and noble presence.

From the first day at the Hippodrome, slowly, through the hours and moments that created a strong closeness between them, until the Festival d’lAîr.

That day had almost become one of the worst days of her life. A day that could have wiped away her history as the queen of Agadez and reduced her to something lower than she had ever imagined.

But by Allah’s help, and because of his presence, his bravery, and the rare strength he possessed, she was saved from that terrible attack.

Akhnan Remembers Haisam

Slowly, she opened her eyes as the recitation reached the end of Suratul Baqarah. At that same moment, a question struck her mind.

“Is there anything anyone in this world can ever give her that will equal the value of what he did for her?”

The question descended gently into her heart, joining another question that came after it.

“What if Tamim had succeeded in what he planned? What if what he arranged had happened? What if Haisam had not been with them at that moment? What would have happened?”

The question struck something heavy in her chest.

It forced her to close her eyes for the second time.

Then her lips moved, and she whispered:

“Astaghfirullahal Azeem.”

She said it with a strange feeling, as if she was hearing his voice again.

That same voice.

That softness in his tone that had become like a guide to her.

She remained like that until she felt her state becoming balanced again.

At that exact time, the call to prayer began playing from her phone, which was placed beside her.

The Call to Prayer

She fixed her eyes on the phone, staring at it as if she was waiting to hear something.

The adhan came out gently, the same style of adhan recited in Masjid al-Haram during the five daily prayers.

She did not remove her eyes from the phone until the adhan ended.

Slowly, she stretched her hand and picked up the phone, pressing it softly.

He was the one who had set the adhan on her phone that day when he took her to that house.

That same house whose location she still did not know.

Whose house was it in Agadez?

At first, the adhan reminder had disturbed her because whenever prayer time entered, it would keep ringing and troubling her until she left whatever she was doing and went to pray.

She had searched through the phone many times, but she could not find where he downloaded the application from. She could not understand anything about it.

In the end, she had no choice but to accept it.

And now, she had begun to get used to it.

His Words About Prayer

She remembered one of his words, something she had once heard him say while he was teaching Falaak and the others.

“The Messenger of Allah gave serious warning about prayer. He warned us to protect its times. Prayer is something that, no matter how beautiful your other deeds are, if you are deficient in it, you cannot pass easily before Allah.”

“Everything about you, all your deeds, can become spoiled if prayer is neglected. Prayer alone is a medicine. It reforms the heart of a human being and also reforms his actions.”

“If you perfect your prayer, even sins will move away from you. But if you pray and still do not stop the evil actions Allah has forbidden, then it is possible that your prayer is not accepted, or it is not being performed in the way Allah wants. That may be why it has not affected you enough to stop you from evil.”

Before she could make any movement, Birra requested permission to enter.

As always, Birra entered with the respect they were used to showing her, lowering her head.

“It is time for prayer, Your Highness,” Birra said with her head lowered.

Akhnan looked at her for a moment.

This was the first time Birra had come in to remind her that it was time for prayer.

What had happened?

What had brought this change?

She did not dwell too much on the thought because something within her already told her where the change had come from.

She simply moved gently and sat up properly on the soft small resting bed.

Aisa’s Message

Birra said, “Tanti Aisa sent a message. She said I should inform you that she has left. She said we should leave you and not disturb you. You should rest. But she will return around the days of your departure, insha Allah, so she can see you off.”

Akhnan felt slightly surprised that Aisa had left at that time.

It was not the right time for her to leave because the festival days had not even ended, let alone preparations for returning home.

Birra asked politely, “Is there anything you need?”

The question surprised Akhnan a little, and she turned to look at Birra.

She knew that such a question was something new for her.

Birra quickly explained, “Forgive me. It is an instruction from Abdii, and he received it from Sheikh Muhammad. No matter how small your need is, we should be informed and do what is necessary.”

Akhnan spent a few moments looking at Birra.

The words settled in a different place inside her mind.

This was not the first time people had cared for her needs.

It was not the first time her comfort had been protected and treated as important.

But today, everything felt different from the way she had always known it.

She said nothing to Birra.

Instead, she stood calmly.

Then she said, “I need to go to His Majesty’s library.”

She said it without planning.

For some reason, she felt the need to look for a book about the history of the Messenger of Allah.

She wanted to understand more about the Prophet whom Haisam often quoted, the one he always mentioned by saying, “He said,” or “He did.”

For the first time in her life, she felt a desire to study the life history of the best of creation and how he lived his life.
