Jason Daniel Whitehouse was a 27-year-old sergeant from Phoenix, Arizona, serving with the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and was deployed as part of the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward.
Whitehouse died on November 2, 2006, in the city of Hit, in Iraq's Anbar province. According to the Department of Defense, his death was the result of hostile action. Specific details of the engagement were not widely released, but the area was a known insurgent stronghold where Marines conducted frequent counterinsurgency operations.
His death occurred during a period of intense violence in the Iraq War, known as Operation Iraqi Freedom.
