U.S. Army Sergeant Lucas Timothy White, 28, of Moses Lake, Washington, was killed by hostile action in Baghdad, Iraq, on November 6, 2006.

Their Story

Sergeant Lucas Timothy White was a 28-year-old soldier from Moses Lake, Washington. He served with Company A, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, part of the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) based at Fort Lewis, Washington. The battalion deployed to Iraq in the summer of 2006.

On November 6, 2006, Sergeant White was killed in Baghdad. According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, he died from wounds sustained when his unit encountered enemy small arms fire during combat operations in the Iraqi capital.

White's death occurred during a period of intense sectarian violence in Iraq, following the February 2006 bombing of the al-Askari Mosque in Samarra. The years 2005-2007 were the deadliest of Operation Iraqi Freedom for U.S. forces, with frequent insurgent attacks and urban combat in Baghdad.

His death was reported by local media in Washington state. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal. He was survived by his wife, parents, and siblings.

Sergeant White is memorialized on the Iraq War Veterans Memorial in Olympia, Washington, and his name appears on Panel 12E, Row 102 of the National WWII Memorial's registry, which honors later war dead. Fellow soldiers described him as a dedicated and reliable member of his unit.
