Robert Hodge West was a 37-year-old Master Sergeant from Elyria, Ohio. He served in the United States Army, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 312th Infantry Regiment, 30th Engineer Squadron Battalion, part of the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
On May 14, 2006, West was killed in Baghdad, Iraq. According to the Department of Defense, his death was the result of hostile action. The specific incident that claimed his life was not detailed in the initial casualty report.
