Lance Cpl. Jeromy David West, 20, of Aguanga, California, was a U.S. Marine killed in hostile action in Albu Hayatt, Iraq, on November 25, 2006.
Their Story
Jeromy David West was a 20-year-old from the small community of Aguanga in Riverside County, California. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was assigned as a Lance Corporal to Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, part of the 3rd Marine Division based at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay.
On November 25, 2006, West was killed during combat operations in Albu Hayatt, a town in Iraq's volatile Anbar province. According to the Department of Defense, his death resulted from hostile action. Specific details of the engagement were not widely released, but his unit was engaged in counterinsurgency operations in the region.
West's death occurred during a period of intense sectarian violence and insurgent activity in Iraq. The years 2005-2007 were among the deadliest of Operation Iraqi Freedom for U.S. forces, with Anbar province being a focal point of resistance and combat.
