Bobby Russell West was a 23-year-old soldier from Beebe, Arkansas. He served as a corporal in Company B, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, based at Fort Hood, Texas.
On May 30, 2006, Corporal West was killed in Baghdad, Iraq. The Department of Defense listed the cause as hostile action, but specific details of the incident were not widely reported in national news archives.
West died during a period of intense sectarian violence in the Iraq War, also known as Operation Iraqi Freedom. The years 2005 to 2007 were the deadliest of the conflict for U.S. forces, with casualties spiking after the 2006 bombing of the Al-Askari shrine in Samarra.
