Their Story

Jamie Dunbar Weeks was a Chief Warrant Officer 5 in the United States Army. He served with the elite 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the Night Stalkers, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Weeks was 47 years old and from Daleville, Alabama, when he deployed to Iraq.

On May 14, 2006, Weeks was killed in the town of Yusufiyah, southwest of Baghdad. According to the Department of Defense, his MH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down by enemy fire. All four crew members on board were killed in the crash.

Weeks died during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began with a U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. By 2006, the war had entered a phase of intense sectarian violence and insurgency, with frequent attacks on coalition aircraft. The area around Yusufiyah was a known insurgent stronghold.

The deaths of Weeks and his crewmates were announced by the Department of Defense. They were among the 4,418 American service members who died during the conflict. No specific public statements from family or unit members were widely documented in national news archives.

Weeks is memorialized on the Army Special Operations Command Memorial Wall and in the online registry of fallen service members. His unit, the 160th SOAR, is recognized for its specialized aviation support to special operations forces.
