David Lawrence Waters was a 19-year-old Private from Auburn, California. He served with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, part of the 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum, New York. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On October 14, 2004, Waters was on patrol in Baghdad when his unit was attacked. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, he was killed by enemy small arms fire during the engagement. No other specifics of the incident were publicly released.
