Their Story

Heath D. Warner was a Private in the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward. He was from Stark, Ohio, and was 19 years old when he deployed to Iraq.

On November 22, 2006, Private Warner was killed by hostile fire in the city of Haqlaniyah, located in Iraq's volatile Anbar province. The Department of Defense announced his death the following day, stating he died while conducting combat operations.

Warner's death occurred during a period of intense violence in the Iraq War, known as Operation Iraqi Freedom. The years 2005-2007 were the deadliest of the conflict for U.S. forces, marked by a surge in sectarian violence and a widespread Sunni insurgency, particularly in Anbar province where Haqlaniyah is situated.

His death was reported by local and national news outlets. The Akron Beacon Journal noted his passing in its coverage of Ohio service members killed in the war. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
