Their Story

Sgt. 1st Class Terry O'patrick Wallace was a 33-year-old native of Winnsboro, Louisiana. He served in the U.S. Army with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, part of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas.

On June 27, 2006, Wallace was killed in Taji, a city approximately 20 miles north of Baghdad. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, his death was the result of hostile action. No further specifics regarding the incident were publicly released.

Wallace died during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began with a U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. By mid-2006, the war had entered a phase marked by intense sectarian violence and a persistent insurgency against coalition and Iraqi government forces. Taji was a significant logistical hub and the site of a large coalition base, frequently targeted by insurgent attacks.

Wallace's death was recorded in official casualty lists. He was one of at least 62 U.S. service members killed in Iraq during June 2006, according to Defense Department figures. His hometown newspaper, The News-Star of Monroe, Louisiana, noted his passing in its casualty reports.

Sgt. 1st Class Wallace is memorialized on the Iraq War Veterans Memorial and other online registries of fallen service members. His name appears on Panel 8a, Row 17 of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Memorial Wall in Overland Park, Kansas.
