Vue, Thai
U.S. Army Specialist Thai Vue, 22, of Willows, California, died on June 18, 2004, at the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq, from hostile action.
Their Story
Specialist Thai Vue was a 22-year-old soldier from Willows, California. He served with the 127th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, V Corps, based in Hanau, Germany, before deploying to Iraq.
On June 18, 2004, Vue died from wounds sustained in a hostile incident in Baghdad. He was evacuated to the 31st Combat Support Hospital (CSH) in the Iraqi capital, where he was pronounced dead. The Department of Defense did not release specific details of the attack that led to his death.
Vue was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began with the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. By mid-2004, the initial conventional war phase had ended, and U.S. forces were engaged in a counterinsurgency campaign against a growing armed resistance. The period was marked by frequent attacks using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), small arms, and mortars.
His death was reported by the Department of Defense and noted in news coverage listing casualties from that week. He was one of at least seven U.S. service members killed in hostile action during that period in June 2004.
Thai Vue is memorialized on the Iraq War Memorial website and is listed among the 4,418 American service members who died during the conflict. His name appears on the Global War on Terrorism memorial at Fort Liberty, North Carolina (formerly Fort Bragg).
