U.S. Army Specialist Eric Vizcaino, 21, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was killed in action in Balad, Iraq, on November 21, 2006. He was assigned to HHC, 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry Regiment, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Eric Vizcaino was a 21-year-old soldier from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army's 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
According to the Department of Defense, Vizcaino died on November 21, 2006, in Balad, Iraq, from wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. He was reportedly on a mounted patrol at the time of the attack.
Vizcaino's death occurred during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a period of intense sectarian violence following the bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra in February 2006. The years 2005-2007 were the deadliest of the conflict for U.S. forces, with frequent IED attacks and urban combat.
His death was reported by the Albuquerque Journal and other local New Mexico news outlets. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations.
Eric Vizcaino is memorialized on the Iraq War Veterans Memorial and by his unit. His name is listed on the 82nd Airborne Division's memorial at Fort Bragg.
