U.S. Army Specialist Travis Michael Virgadamo, 19, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was killed in action on August 30, 2007, at Forward Operating Base Taji, Iraq.

Their Story

Travis Michael Virgadamo was a 19-year-old from Las Vegas, Nevada. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Troop B, 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, based out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.

According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Specialist Virgadamo died on August 30, 2007, at Forward Operating Base Taji, north of Baghdad. The official release stated he was killed when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device during a mounted patrol.

Virgadamo's death occurred during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a major conflict that began with a U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. By 2007, the war was in a period of intense sectarian violence and insurgent activity, with IEDs being a leading cause of casualties for coalition forces.

His death was reported by several news outlets, including the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other service medals.

He is remembered on memorial walls in Nevada and Georgia. His name is inscribed on Panel 26E, Line 10 of the Iraq War Memorial at the Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City, Nevada.
