Tobar, Anais Alejandra

First Lieutenant Anais Alejandra Tobar was a 25-year-old officer from Miami, Florida. She served as an aircraft maintenance officer with the 4th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, part of the 4th Fighter Wing based at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina. According to the Air Force, she was deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Tobar died on July 18, 2016, at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates. The Department of Defense stated her death was non-combat related and occurred while she was supporting the air campaign against ISIS. An investigation was reportedly conducted, but the specific details of the incident were not publicly released.

Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led military intervention against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria, began in August 2014.
