Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett
U.S. Army Reserve Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia, was killed in a drone strike on Tower 22, a U.S. outpost in northeastern Jordan, on January 28, 2024.
Their Story
Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett was a 23-year-old soldier from Savannah, Georgia. She was assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, a U.S. Army Reserve unit based at Fort Moore, Georgia.
On January 28, 2024, a one-way attack drone struck the living quarters at Tower 22, a small U.S. logistics support base in northeastern Jordan near the Syrian border. Moffett and two other Army Reserve soldiers from Georgia were killed in the attack. The U.S. Department of Defense stated the drone was launched by an Iranian-backed militia.
The attack occurred amid a period of heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023. Iranian-backed militias had launched over 160 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria prior to the Jordan strike, which was the first to cause U.S. fatalities in Jordan.
U.S. President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin publicly condemned the attack and vowed a response. Moffett's body was returned to the United States during a dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base on February 2, 2024.
Moffett was the youngest of the three soldiers killed at Tower 22. Her family described her as a dedicated soldier who loved her country. She was posthumously promoted from Private First Class to the rank of Specialist.
