Their Story
Joshua Samuel Robinson was a 22-year-old from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served as a Specialist in the Louisiana Army National Guard, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, based in Lake Charles.
According to a U.S. Department of Defense news release, Robinson died on June 10, 2021, at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, from wounds sustained in a non-combat related incident. The incident was under investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.
Robinson was deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the U.S.-led military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). By 2021, following the territorial defeat of the ISIS caliphate in 2019, the mission's primary focus had shifted to training, advising, and assisting partner forces.
The Department of Defense announced his death on June 12, 2021. His passing was reported by local Louisiana media, including The Advocate, which noted his Baton Rouge roots.
He was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Robinson is memorialized on the U.S. Army's Fallen Warriors website and by his unit.
