Their Story
Serving as LCPL Petsche, Neil David, from LENA, IL, at age 21, with A CO, 1ST BN, 7TH MAR, 31ST MEU, 1ST MAR DIV, CAMP PENDLETON, CA, he went to Iraq with the MARINE CORPS. He did not come home.
Killed on December 21, 2004 in AL QAIM, IRAQ, Petsche, Neil David was one of the 4418 Americans the country lost in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In the first year of occupation, military victory gave way to an insurgency the US hadn't planned for. Disbanding the Iraqi army created a vacuum. Armed groups filled it immediately.
