Makan Nasiri
Makan Nasiri, 12, was a schoolboy killed when US missiles struck the Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, on 28 February 2026.
Their Story
Makan Nasiri was a 12-year-old boy attending the Shajareh Tayyebeh (The Good Tree) primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, southern Iran. He was killed on 28 February 2026 when US missiles struck the school during the opening hours of the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran.
His name appears on the verified list of 61 victims published by Middle East Eye on 4 March 2026, compiled from Iran's Gymnastics Federation records, a handwritten casualty list, and the Tasnim news agency. At 12, he was among the oldest schoolchildren killed.
The school, a two-storey building, served children of both IRGC naval families and local civilians drawn by its low fees. Satellite imagery reviewed by Human Rights Watch confirmed the school had been separated from the adjacent IRGC compound since at least 2016 by a wall with a separate civilian street entrance. The building was struck three times in rapid succession; its roof collapsed on students.
Investigations by Bellingcat and BBC Verify geolocated footage showing a cruise missile identified by experts as a US Tomahawk striking the area. Eight munitions experts confirmed this identification to The Washington Post. US Central Command's preliminary internal findings, reported by CNN on 11 March 2026, indicated that outdated targeting intelligence contributed to the civilian strike. At least 165 people were killed in total.
