Miller, Albert Joseph
U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Albert Joseph Miller, 24, of Richmond, New Hampshire, died on April 19, 2019, at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar while serving in Operation Inherent Resolve.
Their Story
Staff Sergeant Albert Joseph Miller was a 24-year-old airman from Richmond, New Hampshire. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a member of the 736th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, based at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
According to the Department of Defense, Miller died on April 19, 2019, at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. The base is a major logistics and command hub for U.S. Central Command. The Air Force stated his death was 'in support of Operation Inherent Resolve' but did not release immediate details on the circumstances.
Miller's death occurred during Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led military intervention against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria. By early 2019, the group had lost its last territorial stronghold in Syria, marking the end of its self-declared caliphate. The mission subsequently shifted toward an advise-and-assist role for local forces and targeted counter-terrorism operations against a persistent ISIS insurgency.
The Air Force announced Miller's death in a press release on April 22, 2019. His home state senator, Jeanne Shaheen, issued a statement honoring his service. Miller was posthumously promoted from Senior Airman to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Miller is remembered by his unit and community as a dedicated maintainer. His name is recorded on memorials, including the Air Force Memorial's 'Roll of Honor' and a memorial at Pease Air National Guard Base in New Hampshire.
