Their Story
Hananeh Mehdikhah was a 7-year-old girl attending the Shajareh Tayyebeh (The Good Tree) primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, southern Iran. She was killed on 28 February 2026 when US missiles destroyed the school during the opening hours of the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran.
Her name appears on the verified list of 61 victims published by Middle East Eye on 4 March 2026, compiled from Iran's Gymnastics Federation records, a handwritten casualty list, and the Tasnim news agency. She was among the majority of victims who were schoolgirls aged between 7 and 12.
The school was struck in a sequence of at least three impacts. The principal moved students to the prayer room after the first strike and contacted parents; the second impact killed most of those sheltering. Eyewitness accounts from Red Crescent medics described scenes of devastating destruction. Human Rights Watch and multiple international media investigations concluded the US military was most likely responsible, with missile debris confirmed by experts as consistent with a Tomahawk cruise missile. At least 165 people were killed in total.
