Their Story

Todd Lane McGurn was a 20-year-old soldier from Riverside, California. He served as an active-duty corporal in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Bliss, Texas.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, McGurn died on November 25, 2017, in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds sustained during an improvised explosive device (IED) attack. The incident was reported as a non-combat related event, indicating it did not occur during a direct firefight with enemy forces.

McGurn's death occurred during Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led coalition campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria.
