Their Story

Staff Sgt. Chester Jamicheal Mcbride was a 30-year-old Air Force investigator from Statesboro, Georgia. He served with Detachment 405 of the 4th Field Investigations Squadron, part of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), based out of Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. His unit was responsible for conducting criminal investigations and counterintelligence operations.

On December 21, 2015, Mcbride was killed in Bajawri Village, located in Afghanistan's Helmand Province. The operation focused on counterterrorism and training Afghan security forces, with Helmand Province remaining a significant area of insurgent activity.

The Department of Defense announced his death the following day. He was posthumously promoted from senior airman to staff sergeant. A memorial service was held for him at Maxwell Air Force Base in January 2016.
