Their Story
Mohammad-Ali Karyani Pak was a 7-year-old boy attending the Shajareh Tayyebeh (The Good Tree) primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, southern Iran. He was killed on 28 February 2026 when US missiles struck the school during the opening hours of the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran.
His name, and that of his older brother Ali-Akbar Karyani Pak (8 years old), both appear on the verified list of 61 victims published by Middle East Eye on 4 March 2026. Their deaths represent one of several instances in the casualty list where siblings were killed together in the same strike.
The school was struck at least three times in rapid succession. A second impact targeted the school's prayer room where survivors had taken shelter after the first blast. The principal had called parents asking them to collect their children; several parents arrived after the second strike had already killed those sheltering. Human Rights Watch, Bellingcat, the BBC, and Reuters concluded that the US military was most likely responsible. Missile debris was identified by multiple experts as consistent with a Tomahawk cruise missile. At least 165 people were killed in total.
