Senior Airman Quinn Lamar Johnsonharris, 21, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was a U.S. Air Force airman assigned to the 39th Airlift Squadron. He was killed in action on October 2, 2015, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Quinn Lamar Johnsonharris was a 21-year-old Senior Airman from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, assigned to the 39th Airlift Squadron, 317th Airlift Group, based at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas. The squadron operates C-130J Super Hercules aircraft.
On October 2, 2015, Johnsonharris was killed in Jalalabad, the capital of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province. The Department of Defense stated he died of wounds sustained from small arms fire while on patrol with Afghan forces. The incident occurred during a partnered ground operation.
Johnsonharris died during Operation Freedom's Sentinel, the U.S. mission that began on January 1, 2015, following the conclusion of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) combat mission. The operation's stated objectives were to train, advise, and assist Afghan forces and conduct counterterrorism missions. In 2015, Nangarhar province was a significant area of operations against insurgent groups.
The Department of Defense announced his death on October 3, 2015. According to a statement from Dyess Air Force Base, he was posthumously promoted from Airman First Class to Senior Airman. His remains were returned to the United States.
His name is inscribed on the Dyess Air Force Base Memorial and is included on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The 39th Airlift Squadron continues to honor his service.
