Their Story

Gresham, Genesia Mattril was 19 and from LITHONIA, GA when she joined the Active Duty, NAVY, NAVSECFR BAHRAIN as SN. Operation Iraqi Freedom would take her life.

She did not survive OIF. The NAVY recorded her death on October 22, 2007 in MANAMA, BAHRAIN.

The years 2005?2007 were OIF's deadliest. Sectarian violence surged after the 2006 bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra. American troops were caught between militias, insurgents, and a government that barely functioned.
