Esra Farahi-Zadeh was a young girl attending the Shajareh Tayyebeh (The Good Tree) primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, southern Iran. She was killed on 28 February 2026 when US missiles struck the school during the opening hours of the US-Israeli military offensive against Iran. Her name appears on the verified list of 61 victims published by Middle East Eye on 4 March 2026, compiled from Iran's Gymnastics Federation records, a handwritten casualty list, and the Tasnim news agency. She was one of two victims in the MEE list for whom age was recorded as unknown, alongside Fatemeh Yazdan-panah.
As of 5 March 2026, the Iranian Ministry of Education stated that 69 schoolgirls remained unidentified and were undergoing DNA testing, reflecting the severity of the destruction. At least 165 people were killed in total, the majority of them schoolchildren aged 7 to 12.
Multiple independent investigations concluded the US military was most likely responsible for the strikes. Human Rights Watch called for a full investigation of the attack as a potential war crime.
