Their Story
Evans, Blake William was 24 and from ROCKFORD, IL when he joined the Active Duty, ARMY, COMPANY D, 2D BATTALION, 327TH INFANTRY, 1 BCT, FORT CAMPBELL, KY as SGT. Operation Iraqi Freedom would take his life.
He did not survive OIF. The ARMY recorded his death on May 25, 2008 in BALAD, IRAQ, from HOSTILE.
In the later years of OIF, the surge had reduced violence significantly. But Americans continued to die ? IEDs, snipers, crashes ? as the mission shifted toward transition and withdrawal.
The ARMY classified his death as "HOSTILE" ? a category that matters to the families who must make sense of it. His name is documented in the Defense Casualty Analysis System at https://dcas.dmdc.osd.mil/dcas/app/conflictCasualties/oif.
