Their Story

Monterrious Travelle Daniel was a 19-year-old from Griffin, Georgia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned as a Private First Class to the 60th Ordnance Company, 68th Special Troops Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, based at Fort Carson, Colorado.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Daniel died on June 12, 2015, at Camp Buehring, a U.S. military staging base in northwestern Kuwait. The official casualty report listed his death as 'non-combat related' and under investigation.

Daniel's death occurred during Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led military intervention against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria, which began in August 2014. Camp Buehring served as a critical logistics and transit hub for personnel and equipment supporting the campaign.

The Army did not release the specific findings of its investigation into his death. He was survived by his family in Georgia. His name is recorded on the Defense Casualty Analysis System and on memorials honoring fallen service members from Fort Carson.

Private First Class Daniel is remembered among the more than 80 U.S. service members who died during Operation Inherent Resolve in non-combat incidents. His name is included on the Griffin-Spalding County Veterans Memorial in his hometown.
