Carey, Michael Marvin was 20 and from PRINCE GEORGE, VA when he joined the Active Duty, MARINE CORPS, H&S CO, 1ST BN, 5TH MAR, 1ST MARDIV, CAMP PENDLETON, CA as PFC. Operation Iraqi Freedom would take his life.
On May 18, 2004, he died in Iraq. His name entered the Defense Casualty Analysis System that day.
In the first year of occupation, military victory gave way to an insurgency the US hadn't planned for. Disbanding the Iraqi army created a vacuum. Armed groups filled it immediately.
