Their Story

Isiah Lebaron Booker was a 23-year-old soldier from Cibolo, Texas. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company E, 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Booker died on January 7, 2017, from wounds sustained during a counter-ISIS operation in northern Syria. The Pentagon stated he was wounded in a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device attack in the town of Ayn Issa, Raqqa province, and later died from his injuries.

Booker's death occurred during Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led military intervention launched in August 2014 against the Islamic State group. The operation involved coalition airstrikes and ground support for local forces in Iraq and Syria, where ISIS had seized significant territory.

The Department of Defense announced his death on January 8, 2017. His body was returned to the United States, and he was buried with military honors. His family and community in Texas held memorial services.

Specialist Booker is memorialized on the website of the 5th Special Forces Group and is listed on the Pentagon's casualty roster for Operation Inherent Resolve. His name appears on the Global War on Terrorism memorial at Fort Campbell.
