Athareh Zarei

Athareh Zarei was a ten-year-old girl from Minab, a city in Iran's southern Hormozgan province. She was a primary school student, and her family name was shared by several other children in the community.

On the morning of February 28, 2026, Athareh was at school when the building was struck by a missile. The attack, described by international news agencies as an airstrike, resulted in numerous civilian casualties. Iranian state media reported that multiple children were among the dead.

The strike occurred during a period of heightened regional military activity in early 2026. In the preceding weeks, there had been a series of reported cross-border attacks and retaliatory strikes involving Iran and neighboring states.
