Auren Kiyayya Book 1 Complete Hausa Novel English Translation

I saw a huge and luxurious house. Women were going in and coming out, and from the look of things, anyone could tell that a wedding was taking place inside the house. That made me quickly push my way in too so that I would not be left behind.

But the wealth I saw at the gate alone almost pushed me back. I stood with my mouth open because the house was extremely beautiful. It was not even because of the furniture inside; just the amount of money spent on the building itself was enough to amaze anyone.

When I realized that I could spend the whole day staring at the place, I quickly entered. Inside, I began meeting wealthy women who carried themselves with pride. These were women who deserved to be called big women, not ordinary women. The scent of designer perfumes and incense filled the air.

I pushed my way forward until I entered the room that was more crowded than the others. Everyone was cheerful, smiling, and chatting, but I kept looking around, trying to see who the bride was. No matter how much I looked, I did not see her.

As I turned to leave, I saw someone lying down. I could not see her face clearly, but from the way she was lying, it was obvious that she was crying as if her heart would leave her body.

I kept staring at her in surprise. Then, as if from nowhere, I heard someone say, “There is the bride. She has been crying since morning. We have been trying to see her, but she refused to listen to anyone. She just kept crying.”

After saying this, they left the room.

At that moment, I looked at her again. She was wearing an extremely expensive lace outfit. Her skin was very fair and glowing, but the crying had completely drained her. What surprised me most was that none of the people at the wedding seemed bothered by her tears. Everyone was busy with their own affairs. No one cared about her pain.

Nusaiba Comforts Nanah

A woman who could not have been more than forty-five years old walked toward the crying bride. She was dressed in an expensive red and black material. She came close to where the bride was lying and began speaking in a gentle voice that showed concern.

“Nanah, are you not going to stop crying? How many hours are left before your marriage to Salkhan will be tied? You should accept destiny, calm your heart, and accept your husband. Let the two of you live peacefully.”

She continued, “Your uncle and I are a good example for you. Even if you were not born then, I am sure you know the history of our marriage. But now, because I was obedient and married him, by Allah, he does not like seeing me sad. Even now, if you remind me that I once said I did not love him, we will quarrel.”

She added, “You are an orphan, and he is also an orphan. Salkhan is your cousin. Even if it is because of his behavior that you do not love him, do you not know that if you follow this marriage patiently, Allah may use you as a means for him to change?”

Since the woman started talking, Nanah did not raise her head or say a word. She only listened to the words as if hot sand had been poured into her heart.

She stood up, even though dizziness was troubling her, intending to leave the place. But her body was too weak, and she fell back onto the bed.

The woman spoke angrily, “Look at yourself. You have allowed worry to weaken you until you cannot even stand. Are you trying to kill yourself for nothing? This marriage will not be stopped.”

With tears shrinking her eyes, Nanah said, “Aunty Nusaiba, what kind of injustice is this? For how many years have I been with Mainah? Yet now, without my knowledge, they suddenly say I will be given to Salkhan. May Allah have mercy on my father. If he were alive, this would never have happened.”

After saying that, she stood up despite the dizziness and rushed into the bathroom.

Nanah Makes a Promise

She went to the wash hand basin, opened the tap, and splashed water on her beautiful face. The coolness touched her skin. She looked at the large mirror hanging above the basin as if she was speaking to herself.

A bitter smile appeared on her face while warm tears rolled down.

She said, “By Allah, by Allah, by Allah, I, Khadija, will never live with Salkhan. This is a promise I am making to myself. I will never stay with him. Since my mother and her relatives have allowed the love of this world to blind them, we shall see.”

Nanah stayed in the bathroom for a long time, her heart tying and untying different kinds of thoughts. When she finally came out, Aunty Nusaiba was no longer there, and Nanah felt relieved.

She did not raise her head or speak to anyone. She simply went back to her place and lay down. Everyone in the room looked at her, but no one said a word.

The Groom’s House in Kano

In the city of Kano, Tadabo Tunbin Giwa, whatever you come with, someone has more than you. I quickly left to see the groom whom Nanah openly hated, just to know who he was.

I took an Adaidaita Sahu and headed to Sharadda Phase 2.

The tricycle stopped in front of a huge house. The design, size, and beauty of the house almost made me hesitate before entering. When I entered, I was truly amazed. The building looked like a foreign design. There was a place for keeping peacocks and rabbits. On one side was a large swimming pool, on another side was a basketball court, and on another side was a parking space.

I saw a door that looked like glass and a mirror at the same time. That made me believe it was the entrance that would lead me to people. I stood and looked at my face for a moment before pushing it, but it refused to open. Just as I was about to turn back, I noticed something to press. As soon as I pressed it, the door opened.

I entered and could only say, “Masha Allah.”

The place was beautifully arranged. Everything inside the house was pure white, like an Arab mansion.

I wanted to go upstairs, but then I met three young men sitting down. Each of them was pressing his phone, and no one was talking to the other.

Just one look at them would tell you they were children of wealthy people. But among them, one young man stood out. A single glance at him showed that he had foreign blood in him.

One of them raised his head and said, “Mr. Khan, it is almost time. You know there may be delays today because there are many weddings in Nigeria.”

Even without being told, I knew the fair young man was Mr. Khan. But despite what was said to him, he did not even raise his head, let alone answer.

The one who spoke was already used to his behavior, so he did not say anything more and returned to pressing his phone.

Salkhan’s Pride

Seeing that he had no intention of speaking, Zaid looked at D-Boy and said, “Guy, if he will not go to this wedding ceremony, let us leave. And do not ever call him again, even if it is our number. We are done. At least Nanah is your cousin, and you know she also does not love you. She has someone she loves, but she was forced. She had to be patient, so you too must be patient. In a few minutes, she will become Mrs. Salkhan.”

He ended his words with laughter.

They stood up, saying they were leaving. It was then Salkhan raised his eyes. His beautiful blue eyes looked at them. He knew they were capable of leaving because they were used to doing so.

He began speaking in his polished voice, and even his Hausa carried the sound of another language.

“You know I hate you guys. Whenever you talk about this marriage, you keep saying she was forced or that she does not love me. Who loves her? Let me tell you something. Since they started talking about this marriage, I have never called her. Even when they discussed the wedding arrangements, her mother called me, and I transferred a huge amount of money to her because I have never looked at Nanah as a woman. In fact, I prefer my cocaine to Nanah. Since you insist that I must go, let me go and dress up.”

Zaid and D-Boy looked at each other and said, “Whatever. Let us just go.”

In less than twenty minutes, Salkhan came out wearing an expensive milk-colored shadda decorated with brown and black dots. He looked extremely handsome, and the scent of designer perfume surrounded him.

He picked up his car key and other things, passed by them, and said, “Let us go.”

They were not surprised because they knew his behavior.

Instead of going straight to the car, he went to the gatekeeper and said, “Malam Musa, within the next two good hours, pack everything inside this house. I have given it to you.”

The gatekeeper was shocked. In his heart, he wondered whether Salkhan was truly sane. If he was serious, then his work as a gatekeeper was finished.

When he did not say anything, Salkhan asked, “Or do you not want it?”

The man scratched his head and said, “May Allah reward you with goodness, Oga. Thank you very much.”

Angrily, Salkhan said, “I have told you that I do not like that name Oga. My name is Salkhan Ahmad Muhammad, so call me Salkhan.”

The gatekeeper said, “Alright, sir. But there is one problem. I do not have money to hire a vehicle to carry the things.”

Salkhan hissed and said, “I will give you money. Just make sure everything is packed within two hours.”

D-Boy came closer and said, “Mr. Khan, time is going.”

Salkhan said nothing. He walked to where his car was parked and opened it. As they also tried to enter, he said proudly,

“No. You are not entering my car. I am not coming back here. Everyone should go with his own car.”

They did not care because they were already used to his arrogance. He could be rude to them, but once he did not see them, he would become more worried than anyone.

They entered Zaid’s car, while Salkhan started his own slowly. He stopped beside the gatekeeper, handed him a bundle of one-thousand-naira notes, and said,

“I said two hours. Do you hear me? Nothing must remain.”

Then he drove away.

The Marriage Is Tied

By the time they arrived, the marriage ceremony had already begun. As soon as they got there, the marriage was tied without wasting time.

Salkhan told them he was leaving and that they would meet later.

D-Boy asked, “Who are you meeting later? You should arrange how the bride will be brought.”

Salkhan looked at them, smiled, and said, “I leave that to you. Please, I know you can handle everything.”

After saying that, he did not wait for them. He drove away.

Seeing that they had no other choice, they began arranging how the bride would be taken to his house. They were only doing it because they pitied him as an orphan.

Nanah After the Wedding

On Nanah’s side, when the praise singers came in announcing that the marriage had been tied, she felt her stomach turn. She entered the bathroom and later came out just as her mother entered with a beautiful paper bag in her hand.

The bag was sparkling. Her mother handed it to her and said, “Wear this and come out. Makeup will be done now because the walima will soon begin.”

Nanah collected it, returned to the bed, dropped it beside her, and lay down again. Her mother went out to continue the preparations.

Almost one hour passed, yet Nanah did not come out. Her mother sent people to call her until she got tired and came herself. She found Nanah lying down, and the paper bag had not even been opened.

Angrily, her mother said, “We have been waiting for you since, and time is going. So you have not even worn the clothes? Will you get up, or do you want me to make you angry?”

In anger, Nanah stood up and opened the paper bag. Inside was a beautiful milk-colored abaya decorated with stones. Even she did not know why, but the dress pleased her greatly.

She checked the paper bag to see where it had been ordered from and saw Passion Paradise Boutique, which belonged to Moon Heroine. Truly, the dress captured her attention.

Quietly, she wore it and went for makeup as her mother had ordered. When she arrived, light makeup was applied to her. She looked extremely beautiful. She was naturally pretty, neither very fair nor dark. She had one dimple, a well-shaped nose, beautiful eyes, and two-toned lips, black above and pink below. Her body was soft and feminine.

She looked very beautiful.

Just then, Malama arrived. Her mother sent Aunty Nusaiba, and they went out. Without wasting time, the sermon began. It did not finish until almost 5 p.m., exactly when D-Boy, Zaid, and the groom’s friends arrived to take the bride.

Aunty Nusaiba asked Nanah’s mother about the arrangement of the house. Her mother smiled and said, “Everything is in Big Aunty’s hands. She called earlier and said they had gone with men to arrange everything. She will be taken to Sharadda Phase 2.”

Without wasting time, they prepared to take the bride.

After her mother blessed her, Nanah cried as if her life was leaving her body. She cried until she became weak. When they brought her outside and reached the front of the car, she collapsed.

Everyone rushed toward her. Before long, her mother arrived too. Surprisingly, she said, “Carry her and put her in the car. Even if it is her body, it will be washed in Salkhan’s house today.”

Some people were shocked, and others pitied Nanah. That was how they lifted her and placed her in the car. The groom’s friends saw a strange situation, but they still drove toward Sharadda Phase 2.

Page 4 to 5

They went straight to the house. By Allah’s power, before they arrived, Nanah regained consciousness. She only took deep breaths. Even her tears refused to fall again. Her heart only burned with pain. The tightness in her chest was so strong that even the shaking of the car disturbed her deeply.

When they entered the house, Aunty Nusaiba held her hand and took her to her room.

The house was beautifully arranged. No one would believe that Salkhan and his friends had been living carelessly in it earlier. The house had been arranged like a place in Dubai.

By Maghrib, people began leaving. Since Nanah did not really have many friends there, only family members remained. Aunty Nusaiba and the others slept with her that night.

Nanah had a strong fever, but she did not tell anyone. Her whole body ached badly.

The next morning, her mother sent food to them.

Salkhan’s Side

As for Salkhan, he spent the night drinking and doing what he usually did because of anger. Among all his houses, this one was his favorite because he loved the area. No one interfered with anyone there.

He slept with bitterness in his heart. He did not wake up for Fajr prayer until around 10 a.m. His body felt weak. He quickly entered the bathroom, bathed, performed ablution, came out, prayed, then picked up his car key and went out to find something to eat.

Everyone had eaten and become satisfied except Nanah. Aunty Nusaiba sat before her and tried to make her eat, but she refused to even drink tea. After much scolding and pressure, she managed to eat a little chips and drink a small amount of tea.

Aunty Nusaiba continued advising her, telling her that as a woman, if she lived peacefully, she would be the one to know how to win Salkhan over. But Nanah’s heart was filled with tears, both openly and secretly.

By Maghrib, everyone left. Nanah cried heavily as if her soul would leave her body. Aunty Nusaiba felt great pity for her, but they eventually left her until she cried enough and fell asleep.

Around 2 a.m., she woke up, entered the bathroom, performed ablution, prayed, changed into nightwear, dimmed the light, and slept again.

She woke up around 10 a.m., prayed, and felt angry because she hated missing the proper time of prayer. She bathed and wore a maroon lace dress that made her look very beautiful. She applied only lip gloss, perfumed her body, and used incense before going out to look for something to eat.

Just then, the bell rang, indicating that someone was at the door.

Her eyes widened, and in her heart, she prayed that it would not be that devil. She returned to her room, picked up a veil, and wore it, showing that she was afraid. When she opened the door and saw her mother’s driver, she released a deep sigh of relief.

He greeted her cheerfully, handed her a basket, and left.

She collected it and returned to the dining table. When she opened it, a delicious aroma filled the air. It was bean cake mixed with egg and liver, along with groundnut pap.

She went to the kitchen, took a plate and cup, served herself, and sat down. She managed to eat half before taking the dishes back to the kitchen.

Nanah and Salkhan in the Same House

Just as she was about to clean up, she heard someone coming down from upstairs. Quickly, she rushed into the kitchen.

As for Salkhan, he had just woken up. The smell of food made him head directly to the dining area. He turned toward the kitchen to get a plate, but his phone rang.

When he saw Zaid’s number, he quickly answered.

“Hello, where are you?” Zaid asked.

Salkhan was silent for a moment before saying, “At home.”

Zaid smiled and asked, “Which one among them?”

Salkhan hissed and said, “Sharadda.”

Zaid laughed and said, “We are almost there. Tell the bride to prepare herself.”

Salkhan hissed strongly and said, “By Allah, I came in yesterday around 12 a.m., and I did not even know whether she was in the house or not. I only saw food on the dining table, and that was how I knew she was here. But you know, even if women finish in this world, I hate Nanah.”

After saying that, he ended the call, hissed, and went upstairs.

Nanah heard everything. She also hissed and said, “I hate you too. What will I do with you?”

Then she also went upstairs.

Nanah Calls Her Friend

When she returned to her room, she called her childhood friend. She had only two close friends in the world: Maimuna and Fateemerh, whom she called Dost and Behty.

As soon as Teemah answered the phone, she said, “Hello, Salkhan’s bride.”

Nanah hissed and said, “If you want to make me angry, I will end this call. My mood is already bad. That is why I thank Allah that you and Moon were not around for this wedding, or I would have been finished.”

Teemah laughed and said, “By Allah, thank Allah that Oga stopped me from coming. If I had come, I would have finished you with teasing.”

Nanah said, “That is not what matters now. How is Sofia?”

Teemah replied, “She is much better. She has even started going to school.”

They continued talking. Most of the discussion was Teemah teasing Nanah. Sometimes Nanah answered, and sometimes she ignored her. They talked for a long time before ending the call.

Nanah returned to bed and lay down because she felt unusually sleepy, as if she had taken something. She was tired, and there was still fever in her body.

Salkhan’s Friends Visit

When Zaid and the others arrived, Salkhan welcomed them with pride and attitude. They had found exactly what they wanted, so they kept teasing him. They even said they would go and check if something had happened upstairs that stopped the bride from coming down.

This annoyed him greatly. In the end, he told them he was going somewhere and that they should leave.

But they said he could go and return because they would wait until they greeted the bride.

His anger increased when he saw that their mischief was too much. He simply left the house and abandoned them there. After a while, they also left.

Their Silent Marriage

Nanah spent the whole day sleeping. She only woke up to pray. She did not feel hungry throughout the day. At night, she went down to the kitchen and only made tea, which was all she could drink.

That was how they continued their life. No one would believe two people were living in the same house. Neither of them saw the other, and neither entered the other’s affairs.

The reason the situation did not completely break Nanah was because she kept chatting with Teemah and speaking with Mainah every day, either through calls or messages. That helped her relax a little.

Two weeks passed exactly, and the next day, she had lectures by 8 a.m. Seeing that she had no other option, she called her mother.

“Hello, Ammih, good morning.”

Her mother replied, “Morning, Nanah. So it is only today you remembered to call me?”

Nanah said, “No, Ammih. I have been wanting to call you, but I am sorry.”

Her mother smiled and asked, “How are you? Is everything normal?”

Nanah only replied, “Yes.”

Silence followed for a moment before she gathered courage and said, “Ammih, please ask the driver to bring my car. I have morning lectures tomorrow.”

Her mother scolded her. “Are you not sensible? You want to start driving two weeks after your marriage? Where is Salkhan? Why will he not take you?”

Since her mother started scolding her, Nanah was shocked. Did her mother truly think she and Salkhan lived under one shade to the point where he would take her to school? God forbid.

When she heard her mother saying she would call Salkhan, Nanah quickly said, “Ammih, he is traveling to Abuja very early tomorrow. You know because of his work, they can call them at any time for promotion exams. They called them yesterday.”

Her mother sighed and said, “Okay, now you are talking. I will send it. But when he returns, he will take you. So Salkhan has left you alone?”

Nanah only replied, “Yes.”

They ended the call, and Nanah dropped the phone in disbelief at her mother’s attitude.

Nanah Goes to School

The next morning, after Fajr prayer, Nanah did not return to sleep. She wore one outfit, removed it, wore another, and removed it again because the thought of meeting Mainah made her heart restless.

With difficulty, she finally settled on a skirt and top made from embroidered Ankara fabric. She looked very beautiful. She applied makeup carefully and looked like a doll. Even she knew she looked beautiful.

At 7:30, she left.

When she arrived, lectures were about to begin. From the moment she entered, Mainah kept looking at her in surprise because she had become even more beautiful. He began teaching, but from time to time, he looked at her.

Whenever their eyes met, she smiled at him.

The lecture lasted for two hours. When it ended, she stood outside the school and called him. As he came out, they smiled at each other.

They entered her car, and she drove out.

After they had gone some distance, she parked by the roadside. They talked happily and laughed together. All her worries seemed to disappear. She felt as if she was no longer herself because of happiness.

Mainah was tall. He was neither fair nor dark, and he had a nice body. He had the kind of beauty that any woman could admire, and that was why many women were attracted to him.

They stayed for a long time talking before she returned him to school. Then she drove home.

A Tense Encounter

Nanah entered the house very hungry. With difficulty, she bathed. She could not even apply anything to her body because of how hungry she was. She went out dressed only in a towel that reached her knees and went to the kitchen.

She cooked indomie with eggs, poured it into a plate, and was about to go upstairs when she suddenly met Salkhan.

She moved aside to give him space to pass. But after he passed and she was trying to go upstairs, she heard him say as if from above,

“You illiterate. Do you not know how to greet people?”

She acted as if she did not hear him and continued toward her room.

In anger, he followed her.
