A Beautiful Mansion And A Difficult Labour

It was a very large and beautiful mansion located in a wealthy neighborhood filled with
famous businesspeople. From one look, anyone could tell that the house truly deserved to
be called a mansion.

The house was painted maroon and white. It had two floors and two gates, one at the front
and another at the back. In front of the house were shining flowers of different colors,
adding beauty to the compound. At one side, many expensive cars were parked in their
proper place.

Inside the house, everything showed wealth. Royal golden chairs filled the sitting room,
and large portraits of the owners of the house hung on the wall.

Suddenly, the man whose picture was on the wall came out in a hurry, wearing a black
jallabiya. A few minutes later, he came out again holding a woman who seemed to be his
wife. She was in labour and appeared very weak.

Blood was flowing beneath her, and she could barely walk. He kept supporting her and
saying comforting words, while his face showed deep fear.

He called out anxiously:

“Uwani! Jalila! Where are you?”

Two women quickly came out with delivery items, and together they helped him take her to
the car. The servants in the compound stood silently, some crying and others praying:

“May Allah deliver you safely, Hajiya. May Allah give you what you desire, alive and
blessed.”

The Hospital Tragedy

They drove straight to a large hospital where she usually received medical care. She was
quickly taken into the labour room, while Alhaji Kadel and the others waited outside.

For five hours, they heard no good news. Nurses kept going in and out of the room.
Everyone became restless, especially Alhaji Kadel, who seemed as if he himself was the one
in labour.

After almost seven hours, a nurse came out and asked him to enter the labour room.

He entered quickly and saw his wife sitting, holding a baby and crying bitterly. Tears
covered her face.

He rushed to her and asked with a shaking voice:

“Hajiya Jolde, what happened?”

She could not speak. She only held him tightly and cried.

One of the nurses explained that the baby had died before delivery because the labour had
lasted too long.

Alhaji Kadel’s body became weak. Tears fell from his eyes as he looked at the beautiful
baby boy, who looked as if he was only sleeping. He kissed him and held him to his chest,
crying deeply.

Jolde refused to believe the baby was dead. She kept saying:

“Kadel, do not believe what these nurses are saying. They are lying. My son is not dead.
Wallahi, he is alive.”

Suddenly, she fainted in his arms. The nurses rushed to save her life. Her asthma and
blood pressure became serious, and Doctor Haji, their family doctor, was called.

Kadel Begs The Doctor

After Jolde was stabilized and placed on oxygen and drip, Alhaji Kadel rushed to Doctor
Haji’s office to look for a solution.

He said with deep fear:

“Doctor, please help me. Do not let anything happen to my wife. I love Maryam deeply. If
it becomes certain that this baby is dead, I know she may either lose her life or suffer a
serious problem forever.”

The doctor became confused and asked what kind of help Kadel wanted, since the baby was
already dead.

Kadel then revealed a secret. He explained that the pregnancy had not come naturally
through normal marital relations. It had happened through a medical procedure where his
reproductive cells were placed into Jolde’s womb.

He said they had been married for fifteen years. Jolde had only given birth once before,
but the child lived for only two days. Since then, she had not conceived again.

Because of family pressure, he had married a second wife, Amina, who gave him four
children. But Jolde loved children deeply and longed for her own child. Her co-wife often
prevented the children from coming close to her, and Kadel’s mother preferred Amina over
Jolde.

Jolde also had great wealth but no child to inherit it. That pain pushed them to seek
medical help in India, where the procedure was done and this pregnancy happened.

The Secret Baby Exchange

Kadel begged Doctor Haji to help him hide the baby’s death by exchanging the dead baby
with one of the newborn babies in the hospital.

He promised to pay the doctor between one million and twenty million naira.

The doctor warned him that such an act was a serious crime under the law and against the
hospital’s rules. If exposed, both of them could face life imprisonment.

Still, the doctor agreed after seeing Kadel’s desperation.

He told him there was a woman who had just delivered twin girls. They would take one of
the twins and place Kadel’s dead baby beside the other twin, making it appear that one of
the twins had died.

Kadel was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude.

They went to the newborn room, removed the clothes from one of the twin girls, and dressed
her in the clothes of Kadel’s dead baby. Then they placed the dead baby beside the
remaining twin and took the living girl to Jolde.

Jolde Accepts The Baby

When Jolde woke up, the baby girl was given to her. She was shocked and confused. Kadel
explained everything to her.

She cried and said:

“If not because I want to escape your mother’s insults and mockery, and because I want an
heir and someone I can call my child, wallahi, I would not accept this baby.”

She cried while looking at the sleeping baby.

Six hours after delivery, they were discharged from the hospital.

When they returned home, the house was already filled with relatives, neighbors, and
well-wishers who came to celebrate. Jolde called her people in Nigeria to tell them she
had delivered, while Kadel happily informed his own family and friends.

After two days, they travelled back to Nigeria.

The Naming Of Fatima Zahrah

Jolde came from a wealthy and respected family house in Kebbi State. Her family loved her
deeply because she was the last-born and one of the few female children in the family.

When she returned with the baby, the love they had for Jolde was transferred to the baby.
Everyone was excited to carry her.

The baby was named Fatima Zahrah, after her grandmother Hajiya Baaba.
However, her mother chose to call her Bunayyah.

The naming ceremony was celebrated with great luxury, as if she were the granddaughter of
a president. Money was spent heavily, and the event became the talk of the family.

Kadel loved the child deeply. More than half of the love he had for Jolde seemed to move
toward Bunayyah. His sisters and brothers also loved the baby because they already loved
Jolde.

Kadel’s second wife, Khadija, refused to let her children visit the baby and even travelled
with them to London before the school holiday.

Bunayyah Grows In Wealth And Love

After some time, Kadel returned to Uganda for business, but he often travelled back by air
to see Jolde and Bunayyah.

Jolde and the baby received special care. By two months, both mother and baby had become
healthy and beautiful. Bunayyah became chubby and lovely, with thick Fulani-like hair that
looked full even after her naming-day shaving.

Later, Jolde and Bunayyah returned to Uganda. After three years, the family moved to
Australia, where Bunayyah began school.

As she grew, Bunayyah received extraordinary love from her parents, especially her mother,
who could not bear seeing her sad. Her father also treated her as if she were his only
child, even though he had other children.

She had two nannies taking care of her because both her parents frequently travelled to
different countries for business.

Fifteen Years Later

Fifteen years later, Bunayyah was preparing quickly for school. She wore her uniform: a
dark blue gown reaching her knees, a white shirt underneath, white socks, and shoes.

She tied her long hair into one tail that fell down her back. Even without makeup, her
beauty was obvious.

She had a wide, beautiful, fair face, golden eyes, a slim nose, small lips, and thick black
hair. Her body shape was already noticeable even in school uniform.

She rushed to the dining room, where her parents were having breakfast.

“Good morning, Mommy. Good morning, Daddy,” she greeted.

Her father happily answered and touched her head.

“Baby, you are late today. How did that happen?”

She pouted and said:

“Jasmine and the others kept me busy yesterday. We were chatting until twelve, so I woke
up late.”

Her cook served her favorite breakfast, but she ate only a little and said she was
satisfied.

When her father told her that Samuel was waiting to take her to school, she begged him to
take her himself. He agreed, and she happily hugged her mother before leaving.

At school, she joined her friends Mimi and Jasmine. The three girls had been friends
since JSS 1 and were now in SS 3. Like Bunayyah, they were Nigerian girls living in
Australia.

Bunayyah was known for always having chocolate and sweets in her school bag. Because of
her love for sweet things, she often suffered stomach pain.
